Property Tax Bills
Property tax bills are generally mailed around December 10th of each year. The city tax rate is determined after the approval of the budget by the Common Council in October or November. In addition to your municipal taxes, your bill includes taxes levied by other taxing jurisdictions, any outstanding special assessments, garbage and recycling charges, and any delinquent amounts owed on utility bills.
Taxes can be paid in a lump sum or in two installments. The lump sum or first installment must be received at City Hall by January 31st. If you would like a receipt, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope. The second installment
must be paid to the Columbia County Treasurer in Portage by July 31st.
If you do not make at least the first installment amount by January 31st, the total tax bill comes due immediately and interest and penalty charges begin to accrue.
For more information regarding payment options, please review the tax insert that was sent with this year's tax bill.
